Top 3 Fun Things To Do in Malindi

Shows a person scuba diving at Malindi Marine Park

Malindi is located 120 KM from Mombasa, and on the banks of the Galana river in Kenya. It offers stunning views and amazing tourist attractions. This 2023 valentine and the next, and in between, get to visit Malindi and have a refreshing taste of its vast marinelife, as well as beautiful landscapes.

Watch and Swim With Fish at The Malindi Marine National Park

A famous spot in Malindi is the Malindi Marine Park. It is a marine sanctuary recognized by UNESCO as Africa’s first marine park, and is filled with a diverse array of marine life. These include crabs, sea urchins, sea stars, jellyfish and sea cucumbers. The park is also home to many coral gardens inside lagoons, mangroves, seagrass beds, and mudflats, as well as turtles and shorebirds.

The water clarity is impeccable, which means you will have an exceptional experience as you scuba dive, snorkel, and take an ocean ride inside glass bottom boats. These dramatic, colorful and fun marine life excursions have amazing views of beautiful, patterned fish.

In our books, this is probably the most fun thing to do in Malindi.

Have The “Grand Canyon” Experience On A Budget at Hell’s Kitchen, Marafa

This rugged landscape a small distance from Malindi town known as Hell’s Kitchen is an intricate combination of steep, colorful rocks set in an amazing sequence. The place is also known for its scorching heat, hence its name. The place was once a sandstone ridge that has, over time, been worn by rain, wind, and floods into a beautiful myriad of jagged gorges.

Marvel at this natural gorge during sunset, the perfect time to experience strikingly reflected white, yellow, deep-orange and crimson layers on the steep rocks.

While there, make sure to book a guide, who will not only show you how to discover the place, but also enlighten you on the myths and legends the area is known for.

When I first found out and visited the place, which was recently, I was in awe of how unpopular it is, given the amazing terrain and sunset view which should render it a major attraction in the country.

Experience a Birds of Prey at The Falconry of Kenya

Located in Malindi off Lamu Road near the Moriema cottage, this private zoo offers an up-close and personal experience with birds of prey and other animals. Discover a 200-year-old tortoise that you can feed bananas to, falcons, eagles, goshawks, peckers and owls.

What is amazing is that you can have trained birds perch on your arms, pet non-poisonous snakes, and pose with picture-ready harrier birds. If the birds are in the right mood, you are likely to watch them perform thrilling flight shows. Also, If you are an animal lover, this is the ultimate Malindi experience.

Lastly, A place to stay!

Fun trips don’t have to be expensive. One of the most important aspects of that is accommodation, and our 2 bedroom all en-suit beachfront apartment is the most favorable place.

It’s set inside Malindi’s favorite ocean resort, with a dedicated pool and courtyard, which has its own parking area. The apartment is newly furnished in a catchy coastal theme.

The master bedroom has a king size bed, while the second bedroom has two single beds. there is a daybed at the pouch which works as an extra bed for the extra guest. It’s furnished with ceiling fans in all rooms and air conditioning units in the bedrooms.

The bathrooms are spacious, convenient and well equipped, so is the kitchen area.

Marvel at the location via the images below.

Lastly, for this coming valentine, book the apartment here at Ksh 11,000 a night, between 12th and 16th February, and Ksh 8000 a night during the off-peak periods.
